What Is Retrograde Ejaculation?
Retrograde ejaculation is a condition where semen travels backward into the bladder instead of coming out through the penis during orgasm. It is often referred to as a “dry orgasm” and can affect male fertility because little or no semen is released during ejaculation.
Symptoms & Causes
Common symptoms include little or no semen during orgasm, cloudy urine after orgasm, and difficulty achieving pregnancy naturally. Retrograde ejaculation may be caused by diabetes, prostate or bladder surgery, nerve damage, spinal injury, or certain medications such as alpha-blockers.
Treatment Options
Treatment depends on the underlying cause. Medications may be prescribed to improve bladder neck closure during ejaculation. In fertility-related cases, sperm may be retrieved from urine after orgasm and processed in the laboratory for use in IUI, IVF, or ICSI treatments.
